The superlative mode
Aprende las estructuras, revisa los ejemplos y practica con una actividad interactiva.
¿Cómo destacamos algo dentro de un grupo?
Usamos el superlativo para destacar una persona, objeto o situación entre los demás de un grupo. Por ejemplo: The blue whale is the largest animal.
Habitualmente usamos the antes del superlativo: the cheapest dress = el vestido más barato. No estamos comparando solamente dos cosas.
1. Adjetivos cortos: una sílaba
Agrega -est: short → the shortest; cheap → the cheapest.
Si termina en -e, agrega -st: large → the largest.
Algunos adjetivos cortos duplican la consonante final: big → the biggest, hot → the hottest.
2. Adjetivos largos
Usa the most + adjective: intelligent → the most intelligent; comfortable → the most comfortable.
Esto es habitual con adjetivos de tres o más sílabas y con muchos de dos. Los de dos sílabas pueden variar: simple → the simplest / the most simple.
3. Dos sílabas terminadas en consonante + y
Cambia -y por -iest: happy → the happiest; easy → the easiest.
| Adjetivo | Superlative | Significado |
|---|---|---|
| Good | The best | El/la/lo mejor |
| Bad | The worst | El/la/lo peor |
| Far | The farthest / the furthest | El/la más lejano/a |
| Fun | The most fun | El/la más divertido/a |
Irregulares y variantes
Good, bad y far no siguen la regla general. Para distancias físicas, farther y further son posibles. Further también puede significar «adicional». Con fun, aquí practicamos more fun / the most fun.
